DID YOU KNOW?.... That every time we follow aa recipe, an instruction guide, or a daily routine we are likely engaging in a behavior chain of some sort. A method used to establish an effective behavior chain while teaching a skill, is a Task Analysis. We use this method to analyze a target behavior (such as brushing teeth) with others who may have problems

completing tasks from beginning to end. A task analysis is used to break down the behavior teeth brushing into small, teachable hunks, which is then used to create a behavior chain for training. 

By evaluating the performance of each step of the sequence, we are able to keep our “recipe” intact. This is often used with a series of steps given a specific order, much like a recipe. Think of baking a cake, if you miss a step or measure, your cake will not turn out or will be incomplete; however, if you follow each step carefully in your cake recipe, you will have an effective behavior chain of baking a cake and will have earned reinforcement by eating a delicious cake.
